Letter 831

To the same [Euphymius the Archimandrite, addressed in the preceding letters]. "I know," He says, "I am not unaware of the anguish of your heart, and of the flood with which the Egyptian demons afflict you, and your groaning has not been hidden from me" [echoing Exodus 3:7, where God speaks to Moses of Israel's affliction in Egypt].

Οἶδα, φησίν, οὐκ ἀγνοῶ τὴν ὀδύνην τῆς ὑμετέρας καρδίας, καὶ τὸν πλημμὺν, ὅνπερ θλίβουσιν ὑμᾶς οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι δαίμονες, καὶ ὁ στεναγμὸς ὑμῶν οὐκ ἀπ- εκρύβη ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ.
