XVI A greeting to the same man. Whenever some sweet occasion comes to me, I hope, holy one, to discharge my vows with my pen. Highest father of the fatherland, venerable throughout the whole world, dear to me on every side, the shining care of God: commending humble me to you, holy Gregory, by your stronghold, on behalf of your own servant, I beg you, pray to God.

XVI Ad eundem salutatoria Si qua mihi, veniet quotiens, occasio dulcis, opto, sacer, calamo solvere vota meo. summe pater patriae, toto venerabilis orbe, undique care mihi, fulgida cura dei: commendans humilem tibi me, sacer arce Gregori, pro famulo proprio, quaeso, precare deum.
