Letter 405

To the Same Person. Others, day by day, subdue the heart with labors, and are eager to waste themselves away through self-restraint. But you, through your excessive eating and your bouts of drunkenness, are in danger of bursting against your own flesh.

Ἄλλοι καθεκάστην τοῖς πόνοις τὴν καρδίαν δαμάζουσι, καὶ ἐκτήκειν τῇ ἐγκρατείᾳ σπουδάζουσι. Σὺ δὲ τῇ πολυτροφίᾳ, καὶ ταῖς οἰνοφλυγίαις κατὰ σαρκῶν ἑαυτῶν ῥαγῆναι κινδυνεύεις.
