Letter 246

To Faustus the Magistrate [Greek prōteuōn, the leading citizen or chief magistrate of a city]. We bless, we glorify, we praise in hymns, we worship the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit: one power, one divinity, one authority, one will. We glorify a consubstantial Trinity, and we confess it as a unity in one essence and divinity, but as a triad in three hypostases [Greek hypostaseis], that is, in three persons.

Ἀνευφημοῦμεν, δοξάζομεν, ὑμνοῦμεν, προσκυνοῦμεν Πατέρα, καὶ Υἱὸν, καὶ ἅγιον Πνεῦμα, μίαν. δύναμιν, μίαν θεότητα, μίαν ἐξουσίαν, ἓν θέλημα, Τριάδα ὁμοούσιον δοξάζομεν, καὶ ὁμολογοῦμεν μοναδικῶς μὲν ἐν μιᾷ οὐσίᾳ, καὶ θεότητι, τριαδικῶς δὲ ἐν τρισὶν ὑποστάσεσι, ἤτοι προσώποις τρισίν.
