Letter 110

To the same person. Recall for me the words of the Savior, when he says: "All things that the Father has are mine"; and: "He who has seen me has seen the Father"; and, "To you, Peter, I have given with full authority the keys of the kingdom of heaven, because you did not call me a slave, nor an assistant, nor a minister, nor indeed one held in subjection, nor an alien to the Father's essence, but you confessed that I am the true Son of the living God, by the revelation of the heavenly Father." And again the evangelist has said that for this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus: not only because he was breaking the Sabbath, but also because he was declaring himself to be the true Son of God, and in all things equal to the heavenly Father.

Ἀναμνήσθητι μοι τῶν τοῦ Σωτῆρος ῥημάτων λέγοντος· «Πάντα ὅσα ἔχει ὁ Πατήρ, ἐμὰ ἐστιν·» καὶ· «Ὁ ἑωρακὼς ἐμὲ, ἑώρακε τὸν Πατέρα·» καὶ, Σοὶ, Πέτρε, δέδωκα αὐθεντικῶς τὰς κλεῖδας τῆς βασιλείας τῶν οὐρανῶν, διότι οὐχὶ δοῦλον, οὐδὲ ὑπουργὸν, ἢ λειτουργὸν, οὐδὲ μὴν ὑποχείριον, ἢ ἀλλόφυλον τοῦ Πατρὸς οὐσίας με κέκληκας, ἀλλὰ γνήσιον Υἱὸν ὑπάρχειν με τοῦ ζῶντος Θεοῦ ὡμολόγησας ἐξ ἀποκαλύψεως τοῦ οὐρανίου Πατρός. Καὶ πάλιν ὁ εὐαγγελιστὴς εἴρηκεν, ὅτι διὰ τοῦτο οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐδίωκον· οὐ μόνον καθ’ ὅ τι τὸ Σάββατον ἔλυεν, ἀλλ’ ὅτι καὶ ἑαυτὸν ἀπέδειχνεν γνήσιον Υἱὸν εἶναι τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ ἴσον κατὰ πάντα τῷ οὐρανίῳ Πατρί.
