To Stratonianus. (359/60) If you owe a fee to Leontius for anything else, you will remind yourself of it; but as for that for which I know you to owe him a fee, he persisted in attending to those matters in which your boy was concerned, and he was in no way second to the tutor in these things, nor in those things which the boy's father, had he been present, would have done for his own son. He himself, then, does not see fit to demand anything, considering that he is caring for a son, while it is right for you to give even to one who keeps silent. The fee is for the affairs about which he has come; see to it that these reach their conclusion as quickly as possible.

Στρατωνιανῷ. (359/60) Εἰ μέν του καὶ ἄλλου μισθὸν ὀφείλεις Λεοντίῳ, σαυτὸν ἀναμνήσεις· οὗ δέ σε ἐγὼ οἶδα μισθὸν ὀφείλοντα, τοῦτο παρατηρῶν διετέλεσεν ἐν οἷς ὁ παῖς εἴη σοι, καὶ ἦν οὐδὲν οὔτε τοῦ παιδαγωγοῦ περὶ ταῦτα δεύτερος οὔθ’ ὧν ἂν ἐποί- ησεν ὁ πατὴρ εἰς τὸν ἑαυτοῦ παρών. αὐτὸς μὲν οὖν οὐ.δὲν ἀπαιτεῖν ἀξιοῖ νομίζων υἱέος ἐπιμελεῖσθαι, σὲ δὲ ἄξιον καὶ σιωπῶντι δοῦναι. ἔστι δὲ ὁ μισθὸς ὑπὲρ ὧν ἥκει πραγμάτων, ταῦθ’ ὅπως ὡς τάχιστα λάβοι τέλος φροντίσαι.
