Letter 478: Correct belief and correct life are not the same thing, Antiochos, but neither are they separable in the end.

To Antiochus [The surviving source is not the letter itself but a damaged catena fragment with editorial apparatus.] With three lines omitted, the author of the catena begins in this manner: Good husbandmen must keep watch and stand guard, and so forth. [There follows a list of variant readings:] "casting up" for "rising up"; "for if not" for "unless"; "we had betrayed beforehand" for "we should betray"; "which one must" for "he would find"; "they have worked tares within us" for "they have worked within us tares not even worthy of the fire." (That is to say, the wicked reasonings which come forth out of the heart and set the man in motion.)

Τρίβους lineis omissis, auctor catenae incipit in hunc modum: Ἐγρηγορεῖναι χρὴ τοὺς καλοὺς γεωργοὺς καὶ φυλάττειν, κ. τ. λ. ἀναβάλλοντα. ἀνατέλλοντα. εἰ γὰρ μὴ. ἐὰν μή. προδεδώκειμεν. προδῶμεν. ὁ δεῖ. εὖροι. ζιζάνια ἐν ἡμῖν κατειργάσαντο. οὐδ’ ἄξια πυρὸς ζιζάνια ἐν ἡμῖν κατειργάσαντο.
