The most reverend Passivus, our brother and fellow bishop, on his arrival informed us that silver belonging to his Church had been deposited by his predecessor Fabius with your deacon Severus, according to the condition of the times; and that, although some part of it has been restored, he asserts that a part of it remains lying with him, and that he is putting off restoring it under a certain pretext. Therefore by these words we exhort your Fraternity to take care to admonish him, so that he may restore without dispute what he has received. Or if perhaps he is confident that he can be excused by some reason from restoring it, it is necessary that, between him and the agents of the Church of Fermo, together with our brother and fellow bishop Armenius, you should inquire into the matter; and, the truth having been carefully examined, so impose an end upon this case that neither may the aforesaid deacon seem to suffer prejudice, nor may the aforesaid Church seem to sustain the loss of injustice.
