Letter 3062: I hear that you have been working persistently to bring the idol worshipers in your area to the Christian faith.

To Eutychius the bishop. [Summary:] He exhorts him to persevere in converting the worshippers of idols. He himself requests the patronage of the praetor. Gregory to Eutychius, bishop of Tyndaris. We have received the letter of your Fraternity, delivered by Benenatus, a cleric of your Church; and we have rendered thanks to almighty God, because we have learned that you are occupied with the care of souls and with those things which pertain to God. For you have written to us that certain worshippers of idols, and of the doctrine of the Angelici [a sect that worshipped angels], are found in those regions in which you have been appointed; concerning whom you have asserted that many have been converted, but that some defend themselves under the name of the powerful and by the character of their localities. Therefore, lending aid to the good works of your Charity, we have transmitted our letter to the glorious man, the praetor of Sicily, so that, with the Lord's help, he may join with you with whatever power he can, in order that what has been laudably begun may be able to be healthfully fulfilled. It behooves your Fraternity, therefore, to exercise the greatest solicitude in this matter. For truly you follow the episcopal life, and through your zeal and your tongue you will lead back into the unity of the Church those who dissent from the truth of the faith.
