The solicitude of your Fraternity is altogether pleasing to us, in that the things you learn concerning the life of the priests you both take care to investigate and, once investigated, report back. Therefore, that you may be able to persist without diminution in this solicitude which we praise in you, be zealous and vigilant; and if you should come to know that any excesses are being perpetrated there by any persons whatsoever (which God forbid), then, if indeed they are of such a kind as can be corrected on the spot, let them be corrected in a reasonable manner; otherwise make haste to report in writing to our brother Bishop Maximianus, so that, being informed, he may recognize what ought to be done by you. Let no consideration, therefore, call you back from the investigation of depraved acts or from making them known. For by as much as we praise your vigilance now, by so much the more blameworthy will you be found, if you should conceal acts of this kind by any dissimulation whatsoever.
