I hope in the Trinity, our God, through the venerable intercessions of the saints, that He will guard your servants, wherever they are placed, just as the pupil of the eye is protected, and that He will restore to good health whatever a hostile unevenness of fortune has broken. I, however, though I cannot be present in body, follow you with my services: for at the command of my anxious care I have allowed myself these words, beseeching that I may be informed how well you are. See, I can scarcely bear so brief a span, worn down as I am by your long absence. But powerful too, and friends of the lord, are those to whom your holy soul has entrusted you; mindful of them, I am continually approaching them, as a deposit committed to keeping. They will be present to play their part, and what has been received from them they will preserve without diminution. To these things I add that, by the granting of the mercy of almighty God, your servants, now returned from Venetia, have produced documents confirmed in accordance with the laws, and that here the solemn introduction was straightway completed. Now, whether anything ought to be said by you to your friend, consider with that maturity of judgment which you are accustomed to use.
