Letter 2021: Four times I have sent letters to Your Greatness, and four times the silence has answered me.

Ennodius to Albinus. Four times now I have sent off letters to your Greatness, and still I am accused, as if I were a sluggard. My tongue has done service to my affection: constancy does not deserve such diligence [in fault-finding]. I believe that it was through either the negligence or the ill-will of the letter-carrier that I was brought into this offense. Yet behold, I multiply my letters, and, in accordance with your wish, furnishing tokens of my own prosperity, I desire to rejoice in your good fortune. Farewell, my lord, and raise up one who loves you, with every mark of esteem, since you are doing a thing very near to God when you relieve, with full faith and in communion, one who trusts in your patronage.
