[1] Since it is our purpose to seek out those things which are recognized as pertaining to the glory of a devout sovereign, it is fitting that we honor you with our address, you whom it is established are ever increased in all good things. Concord does not belong only to those who are present; rather, those look upon one another better who join themselves together in affection of soul. And therefore, rendering to your Augustan reverence the feeling of our greeting, we hope that, when our envoys return whom we have dispatched to the most merciful and most glorious sovereign, you may cause us to rejoice in your well-being; for your prosperous affairs seem so welcome to us as our own, and we must of necessity receive with longing that well-being which it is established we continually desire for you.
