Letter 55: Procopius threatens a tragic cry if Epiphanius keeps silent.

Are you still silent? Am I still among the discarded? Has no memory of old loves entered you? You are cruel and unyielding. Recover your memory for me. You did not depart from me with hopes like these. You wept, alas, and could hardly leave, and you promised to write almost before you stepped onto the land. Now those promises are gone. You are only silent, and there is no word of me. If you continue to be silent, I will cry out something tragic: "Ah, Zeus! Friendship and Words, you have been wronged, and I have been wronged too. The one who wrongs me once called me friend. Now he does so no longer.

Ἐπιφανίῳ Ἔτι σιγᾷς; ἔτι τῶν ἀπερριμμένων ἡμεῖς, οὐδέ σε παλαιῶν ἐρώτων ὑπεισῆλθεν οὐδέν; νηλεὴς σύ γέ τις καὶ ἀμείλιχος. ἀνάλαβέ μοι τὴν μνήμην, ὡς οὐκ ἐπὶ τοιαύταις ἡμῶν ἀπῆρας ἐλπίσιν, ἀλλ' ἐδάκρυες μὲν οἴμοι καὶ μόλις ἀπήρχου, γράψειν δὲ ὡμολόγεις μικροῦ δεῖν καὶ πρὶν ἐπιβῆναι τῆς γῆς. νυνὶ δὲ οἴχεται μὲν ἐκεῖνα, σιωπᾷς δὲ μόνον, ἡμῶν δὲ λόγος οὐδείς. εἰ δὲ σιωπήσεις ἔτι, ἀναβοήσομαί τι τραγικόν, «ἰὼ Ζεῦ» λέγων καὶ Φιλία καὶ Λόγοι, «ἠδικήσθε μὲν ὑμεῖς, ἠδίκημαι δὲ ἐγώ. ὁ δὲ ἀδικῶν ἦν ὅτε φίλον ἐκάλει. νῦν γὰρ οὐκέτι».
