Letter 818

To Cyril the Monk. "My soul has longed," it says, "for the courts of the Lord" [Psalm 83:3 LXX / Ps 84:2]. By "divine courts" he means the all-praiseworthy acts of valor and deeds in which the Word of God makes his dwelling, together with those who choose always to follow the Word.

Ἐπεπόθησε, φησίν, ἡ ψυχή μου εἰς τὰς αὐλὰς τοῦ Κυρίου. Αὐλὰς δὲ θείας κικλήσκει τὰς πανευφήμους ἀριστείας καὶ πράξεις, αἷς τισιν ὁ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐναυλίζεται λόγος, καὶ οἱ τῷ λόγῳ ἀεὶ ξυνέπεσθαι προαιρούμενοι.
