Letter 590

To Theodore the Tribune. The divine Apostle [Paul] has called you a house and a temple of the Holy Spirit on account of your faith. How is it that you do not fear to bring into the temple of God the dung of harlots' songs, and of foul buffooneries, and of much rubbish, and of soul-destroying words?

Οἶκόν σε καὶ ναὸν τοῦ ἁγίου Πνεύματος διὰ τὴν πίστιν κέκληκεν ὁ θεῖος Ἀπόστολος. Πῶς οὐ δέδοικας εἰς τὸν ναὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ κόπρον εἰσφέρειν πορνικῶν τε ἀσμάτων, καὶ γελοίων ῥυπαρῶν, καὶ συρφετίας πολλῆς, καὶ λόγων ψυχοφθορῶν;
