Letter 196

To the same person. "Crucifying again," he says, "the Son of God, and holding him up to open shame" [Hebrews 6:6]. And it is the heretics who crucify him again -- not only those who set their hand to rebaptizing, which is no small wrong, but also those who dare to say that Christ will one day be crucified even on behalf of the demons.

« Ἀνασταυροῦντες, φησί, τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ παραδειγματίζοντες. » Ἀνασταυροῦσι δ’ αὐτὸν αἱρετικοί, οὐ μόνον οὐ κακῶς ἀναβαπτίζειν ἐπιχειροῦντες, ἀλλὰ καὶ οἱ τολμῶντες λέγειν, ὅτι καὶ ὑπὲρ τῶν δαιμόνων ποτὲ ὁ Χριστὸς σταυρωθήσεται.
