Since Pantaleo the notary is occupied with ecclesiastical business, your experience does not hold it in doubt. And therefore, since John, the maternal uncle of Megaris [Megalis], is reported to have died intestate and without children, no other nearer kinsman being in existence, lest through the absence of her son-in-law she may be able to incur loss in this matter, and since the law, if it is so, is known to call the aforesaid woman to the succession of her uncle who died intestate, we enjoin upon you by this command that you take to your aid our most reverend brother and fellow bishop Vitalian and Boniface the notary, and that, whatever property it shall be established that the man who is deceased left behind, you diligently make a complete inventory until the aforesaid Pantaleo returns. And that you may be able the better to fulfil this, take likewise to your aid in support our son John, the magnificent man, the tribune. Concerning whom we wholly trust that, if you disclose our will to him, he will not refuse devotedly to accommodate himself to you. Let it likewise be your concern, since the aforesaid John is reported to have had certain consecrated sacred vessels in his keeping, both to inquire diligently after these and, with all caution, to make a full account of the whole, and to indicate to us in detail whatever shall be found. Let your experience therefore hasten to do these things which we have written carefully and attentively, so that it cannot be blameworthy.
